On May 10th, the National Water Technology Conference and Technical Equipment Achievement Exhibition was held in Fuzhou. During the conference, the "Cross-Border Integration Forum on Low-Carbon Membrane Technology + New Materials in High-Quality Drinking Water Treatment" co-hosted by Jiuwu Hi-Tech and Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Research and Development Center became a highlight. Meanwhile, its "High-Packing Area Ceramic Membrane Complete Equipment for Water Treatment" was selected into the *2025 Innovative Technologies and Product Cases for Water Environment Governance.
Low-Carbon Membrane Forum: Discussing New Trends in Drinking Water Treatment
At the "Cross-Border Integration Forum on Low-Carbon Membrane Technology + New Materials in High-Quality Drinking Water Treatment", Wang Zongheng, a senior engineer in membrane-based tap water technology from Jiuwu Hi-Tech, elaborated on three aspects: research background, ceramic membrane application design, and classic case studies.
Currently, membrane filtration technology has become one of the emerging advanced drinking water treatment technologies. The most common membrane-based treatment technology for drinking water in China is ultrafiltration membrane treatment, with most ultrafiltration membranes for water treatment being organic. Ceramic membranes, however, have begun to be widely used in drinking water treatment at domestic water plants due to their excellent performance.
As a leading enterprise in the ceramic membrane field of the membrane industry, Jiuwu Hi-Tech was the first to break foreign monopolies and produce ceramic membrane products with independent intellectual property rights. Ceramic membranes are precision filtration materials with a porous structure, sintered at high temperatures from inorganic ceramic materials such as aluminum oxide, titanium oxide, and zirconium oxide. They consist of a porous support layer, transition layer, and membrane layer, forming an asymmetric distribution. Their filtration accuracy covers microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and small pore sizes (≥2nm), and they have been widely applied in separation processes for pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals, and water treatment.
Applications of Ceramic Membranes in Drinking Water Treatment Processes
Efficient Purification: Effectively removes particulate matter, bacteria, viruses, protozoa (Giardia and Cryptosporidium), and aquatic organisms in water, reducing disinfectant dosage and minimizing the formation of disinfection by-products. The treated water has a turbidity <0.05 NTU, ensuring drinking water safety. Flexible Processes: Supports short-flow processes (e.g., direct ceramic membrane filtration, coagulation + ceramic membrane, coagulation sedimentation + ceramic membrane), as well as combined processes to enhance safety (e.g., ozone + ceramic membrane, ozone + biological activated carbon + ceramic membrane).
Advantages of Ceramic Membranes in Drinking Water Treatment Processes
Material Safety: Inorganic ceramic materials exhibit chemical inertness, resisting oxidation or degradation by strong oxidants like chlorine and ozone, as well as microbial erosion. They pose no risks of microplastics or PFAS.
Stable Water Quality: Even when water quality fluctuates (due to rainy seasons or seasonal changes), the effluent turbidity remains stably below 0.05 NTU.
Strong Anti-Pollution Performance: Chemical inertness ensures resistance to strong oxidants, while acid-base tolerance allows the use of various cleaning agents. Both physical and chemical cleaning achieve high efficiency.
Long Lifespan & Low Consumption: With a service life of up to 20 years, they reduce replacement frequency and costs, minimize building material consumption, and meet green environmental protection requirements. Leaders and guests from Hainan Lvsheng Water Purification Technology Industry Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Huisheng Fluid Equipment Co., Ltd., Aosheng Pump Industry (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd., Jiuchuan Zhilian Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Yimo New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., Oumei New Materials (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd., Chongqing Water Group Co., Ltd., and other units participated in the forum, sharing advanced industry perspectives and innovative technologies focused on high-quality drinking water and membrane-based solutions. Selected as an Excellent Case: The Breakthrough of Domestic Membranes from Lab to Water Plant
With the theme of "Promoting In-Depth Integration of Water Industry Technological Innovation and Industrial Innovation," the conference brought together industry experts, enterprise representatives, and research institutions to engage in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge technologies and development models in the water technology field. The conference innovatively adopted a "1+7+N" multi-agenda system, featuring macro-strategic discussions at the main forum, industrial negotiation meetings for precise matching of upstream and downstream industry chains, annual technical achievement releases, and parallel forums covering seven areas: rural water environment governance, AI water quality monitoring, smart water affairs low-carbon management, industrial wastewater zero discharge, membrane technology iteration, sponge city construction, and reclaimed water reuse. This systematically constructed a full-chain communication platform from policy guidance to technical implementation, injecting new momentum into industry transformation and upgrading.
Jiuwu Hi-Tech showcased its flagship products at the conference, including tubular ceramic membranes, silicon carbide ceramic membranes, and high-packing ceramic membranes. During the award ceremony, its "High-Packing Area Ceramic Membrane Complete Equipment for Water Treatment" was successfully selected into the *2025 Innovative Technologies and Product Cases for Water Environment Governance*. By optimizing the arrangement density of membrane elements and flow channel design, this equipment increases the membrane area per unit volume by over 30%, significantly reducing energy consumption and operation and maintenance costs. It has currently achieved large-scale application in multiple major tap water plants nationwide, with a daily treatment capacity exceeding one million tons.
This honor not only recognizes the company's technological leadership but also highlights the benchmark value of domestic ceramic membranes in addressing drinking water safety and energy efficiency challenges, providing a replicable innovative model for high-quality industry development.
