Application of Nanofiltration Membranes in the Field of Material Separation

Application of nanofiltration membrane

Peptide desalination, beer dealcoholization, sugar solution decolorization, lactic acid decolorization, plant extraction, pharmaceutical intermediate concentration and purification, etc., are the characteristics of the material separation industry with the relatively small amount of individual species but a wide range of demand for different types of membrane products due to the different properties of each product. With the continuous promotion of membrane technology, more and more product application directions are gradually being developed, and nanofiltration membranes are being applied to more and more industries due to their effect of separating salt and special molecular sieve properties. The molecular weight cutoff (MWCO) of nanofiltration membrane technology ranges from 200 to 1000, which is between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, and can effectively be applied to the concentration and purification of large molecular substances in pharmaceutical solutions. It has become one of the membrane materials that develop rapidly and have application prospects, which can help companies save investment, reduce operating costs, and reduce unit consumption.

Nanofiltration membranes play a major role in the material separation industry

Nanofiltration membranes play a major role in the material separation industry in the following aspects:

Separation of salt. In the production process of a product, the different processing techniques or material properties may cause different degrees of salt in the product, affecting the quality and price of the cost. According to the nature of the product, selecting nanofiltration membranes with different MWCO to separate the target product from the salt can continuously reduce the impurities in the product through water washing or dialysis, thereby achieving the effect of improving quality. The purely physical separation method ensures that the material does not produce changes in properties, thus ensuring product quality.

Separation of intermediates. In the production process, there are often problems such as incomplete reaction or synthetic by-products. When the molecular weight or structure of two or more substances are significantly different, nanofiltration membranes can be used for separation, and substances with larger molecular weight or more complex molecular structure can be trapped in the concentrate measurement, achieving material separation and purification.

Under the premise of meeting the conditions, using nanofiltration membranes for concentration has more advantages than reverse osmosis membranes. Nanofiltration membrane technology has low operating pressure, high concentration ratio, and a higher recovery effect under the same conditions. At the same time, due to the different material and pore size, nanofiltration membrane elements have better anti-pollution performance compared to reverse osmosis membrane elements.
