With membrane pore sizes ranging from 0.003 to 0.01 μm, the system can effectively remove suspended solids, microorganisms, and microplastics. Microorganism removal rates can reach up to 99.99%, helping provide an additional barrier for drinking-water safety.

For water sources affected by algae growth, ceramic membranes can maintain stable filtration performance under challenging conditions. In the Zhoushan Qushan Island project, treated-water turbidity was controlled below 0.05 NTU, with reported performance reaching 0.018 NTU.

Ceramic membranes can also be integrated with ozone and biologically activated carbon to support the removal of algal toxins, taste and odor compounds, and disinfection by-product precursors.
