In the washing and treatment of nano powders in the new energy field, powder washing is the key step that determines product purity. Yet in actual production on many shop floors, "meeting the standard" is often accompanied by high water and energy costs. Facing the real problem that conventional filter media foul easily and wash water volumes stay high, Jiuwu Hi-Tech has combined its self-developed silicon carbide ceramic membrane material with a powder counter-current process, offering an engineering solution that balances washing quality and operating cost. It has now been successfully applied in the powder desalination and washing project of a chemical enterprise.
Traditional processes relying on filter presses, centrifuges or sedimentation are facing three limits arising from fluid mechanics and material properties.
Shackle: Low mass transfer efficiency
Filter cake compaction and channeling
Dead-end filtration causes filter cake compaction, wash water forms channels, and ion diffusion is blocked; at the same time, without a counter-current concentration gradient, 5-15 times the wash water is needed to meet the standard, and the downstream heat load rises sharply as a result.
Shackle: Poor chemical stability
Substrate degradation
Under 60-80 °C and strong acid (pH 0-2) and strong alkali (pH 13-14) conditions, organic membranes are prone to hydrolysis of polymer chain segments.
Any optimization of a process flow must be built on the absolute physical and chemical stability of the filter material. Targeting the two shackles of conventional washing, Jiuwu Hi-Tech introduces silicon carbide ceramic membranes as the underlying support, achieving a comprehensive upgrade from material to process.
Fearless of extreme conditions, directly addressing substrate degradation and dissolution loss
It withstands the full pH range (0-14) and long-term temperatures beyond 100 °C, showing unmatched chemical stability especially in strong acid (pH 0-2), strong alkali (pH 13-14) and high-temperature mother liquor washing.
Reshaping fluid efficiency, directly addressing low mass transfer and micropore plugging
With extremely high surface hydrophilicity and low surface potential, SiC membranes are naturally fouling-resistant and not prone to material build-up; combined with more precise pore size matching, they effectively suppress micropore plugging and slow filter cake thickening, with operating flux reaching 2-3 times that of conventional alumina membranes.
Long-cycle operation without decay, directly addressing short life and easy decline
With outstanding resistance to solid particle scouring and high mechanical strength, the membrane can withstand high-intensity chemical cleaning even after heavy fouling, with a very high flux recovery rate, thoroughly breaking the curse of "short life, easy decline" of conventional materials.
Relying on the extreme tolerance of SiC membranes, Jiuwu Hi-Tech abandons single-tank batch washing and introduces the "powder counter-current" process: the washing process is split into multiple independent stages, and piping achieves the reverse flow of "the cleanest water washing the purest material". The system thereby solves two problems at once.
Cross-flow fluid, solving fouling. The circulating shear force of the material inside the tube continuously scours the inner wall of the membrane, avoiding excessive accumulation of the particle layer and ensuring flux stability over the whole cycle.
Counter-current mass transfer, solving low efficiency. Pure water enters the last stage, and the dialysate is fed forward stage by stage. With this cascade layout, the system anchors a stable impurity concentration difference within each stage, breaking through the mechanism bottleneck of late-stage mass transfer decline at very low water consumption.
In a powder washing project, the original line used a filter press, and the material was in a strong acid (pH 0-2) environment. To control impurity ions within the target indicators, nearly 15 tonnes of deionized water were consumed per tonne of finished product, the desalination rate slowed noticeably in the later stage of washing, and the filter cloth required periodic shutdown for acid cleaning.
Jiuwu Hi-Tech's three-stage silicon carbide split counter-current washing system delivered remarkable results in actual application.
Water consumption cut by more than 60%. Water consumption per tonne of material dropped to 4-5 tonnes, greatly reducing the heat load of the downstream evaporation unit.
Extremely stable operation. Unaffected by 60 °C acidic slurry and with lasting, stable flux, it eliminates the trouble of frequent shutdowns for cloth replacement and complex cleaning.
Fully automatic and continuous. Intermittent manual filter pressing is completely abandoned, realizing automatic continuous operation of the whole "feed - washing - discharge" process and ensuring high consistency of product quality.
The improvement of industrial washing processes lies in the synergy between "material performance" and "fluid flow". Through the tolerance of silicon carbide ceramic membranes and the split counter-current flow architecture, Jiuwu Hi-Tech has changed the passive situation of conventional washing that "trades water for purity", providing a solution with practical value for the green and continuous process upgrading of manufacturing.
