On November 17th, the 2025 Inorganic Membrane Development Summit Forum & Annual Conference of the Inorganic Membrane Branch of the China Membrane Industry Association was held in Wuxi. From the separation guarantee of lithium extraction from salt lakes to the recycling of industrial wastewater, from high-end manufacturing purification and separation to upgrading emissions standards for ecological governance, inorganic membrane products are using their unique value to solve the dilemma of balancing development and environmental protection, writing a new chapter in green development.

Following this, in his keynote speech on "Development of Inorganic Membrane Materials and Applications," Li Zhuang analyzed the topic from three aspects: inorganic membrane ceramic products, typical application cases of inorganic membrane ceramic membranes, and the challenges and future prospects of ceramic membranes. He explained that the main advantages of integrated processes centered on ceramic membranes to replace traditional separation processes are:

● High separation accuracy to improve the quality of target products;

● Realize technological innovation and clean production in the chemical industry;

● Resistant to acids and alkalis, high temperatures, pollution, and organic solvents; high mechanical strength;

● Low investment cost, few easily damaged parts in equipment operation, and simple maintenance;

● Short process, small footprint of new construction projects, suitable for capacity transformation or expansion under limited land use conditions.

Currently, ceramic membranes have been successfully applied in fields such as brine refining in chlor-alkali chemical industry, catalytic separation in petrochemical industry, oil-water separation in coal chemical industry, and purification of fine chemical products. Future development will focus on three aspects: improving material performance, upgrading equipment and intelligent transformation, and expanding process innovation and application scenarios, to further improve the performance and precision of membrane materials. Through surface modification and structural optimization, their dirt-holding capacity and resistance to water quality fluctuations will be further improved, reducing the amount of chemical cleaning agents used. From a system design perspective, enhancing intelligent remote control capabilities, optimizing operating parameters, and improving operating efficiency will further reduce maintenance difficulty and costs. Exploring the effects of combined processes on improving the filtration effect of ceramic membranes can maximize their filtration characteristics.
