When people think of innovation, they often think of a major invention or a landmark patent. I used to think that way too. But through process development and work on real customer applications, I have learned that meaningful innovation is rarely a sudden flash of inspiration. More often, it is a repeated response to customer needs and industry bottlenecks.
I am Cheng Yang from the New Energy Business Unit. I would like to share what I have seen and experienced at Jiuwu to explain the second statement in our values: innovation is our primary driving force.
In 2025, I participated in a lithium-recovery project. The customer required exceptionally high utilization of a critical raw material and planned to purchase expensive recovery equipment. Based on our understanding of the process, I believed the route was feasible, but it would be long, energy-intensive and capital-heavy.
After studying the process in depth, we transferred a technology that had already matured in another application to this production line. Through self-circulation, we achieved near-complete reuse of the material. This avoided major equipment investment and delivered a more economical, stable and reliable solution.
That experience taught me that when facing a familiar challenge, examining it from the customer's perspective and researching it more deeply can reveal a new breakthrough.
I saw the same mindset in an internal technical review. Our R&D team was developing a process package for a product with limited added value, so cost control was critical. The customer wanted a higher product concentration to reduce investment and energy use in evaporation.
Based on thermodynamic properties, further concentration appeared impossible, and evaporation seemed unavoidable. But the R&D team did not dismiss the request. They continued looking for an answer and identified an intermediate form of the substance. A chemical method then raised the product concentration directly, bypassing evaporation and significantly strengthening the advantages of the process route.
These experiences showed me that innovation creates more than technical and economic breakthroughs. It creates value for customers, strengthens the company's competitiveness and encourages each of us to keep improving.
Innovation is the source of Jiuwu's value creation and development. From ceramic membranes to organic membranes, from adsorbents to solid electrolyte materials, every step forward has been driven by innovation.
Jiuwu does not innovate simply for the sake of appearing innovative. We value innovation that solves real problems and creates tangible value. It must be implemented, and it must help solve challenges customers encounter in the field.
Jiuwu follows the development philosophy that progress comes through renewal, strength comes through innovation and success comes through those who continue to renew and innovate. Innovation includes materials and technology, but also operations and management. It is an important engine for high-quality development.
Innovation is a habit of thought. When everyone believes that "this is the only way," innovation begins by asking, "Is there another way?" At Jiuwu, everyone willing to question "the way it has always been done" can be a protagonist of innovation.
I am Cheng Yang—a technical professional and a Jiuwu professional. At Jiuwu, I put our values into practice.
